Why is Puppy's Parent DNA Testing Important?

To Make Responsible Breeding Decisions.

All our males (fathers - Sirs) and females (mothers - Dams) of our breeding program were tested with Embark for Breeders Dog DNA Test. Each of our Sirs and Dams obtained results that allow them to breed responsibly.

Make Responsible Breeding Decisions

The likelihood of a puppy expressing a congenital disease depends on the mode of inheritance (MOI) of the corresponding variants. There are two modes of inheritance from parents to offspring: Autosomal Recessive and Dominant. For diseases that are inherited in an autosomal recessive fashion, it is thought that a dog needs two copies of the variant to potentially express clinical signs. For diseases expressed in a dominant manner, only one copy of the variant is needed for a dog to potentially express clinical signs. Dogs with one copy of the variant will pass the variant to about half of their offspring. Therefore, if a breeder plans to breed a dog with one copy of a breed-applicable variant, testing any potential mates and properly applying those results to your breeding program is recommended. Dogs with two copies of the variant will pass the variant to all of their offspring. Therefore, a breeder plans to breed a dog with two copies of a breed-applicable variant, testing any potential mates and properly applying those results to your breeding program is of great importance. Responsible breeding requires breeders to know about their Sirs and Dams DNA make up so, in simple words, determine if the male or female is fit for breeding. Not to Confirm Purebred Status

While Embark indicates that they offer the most accurate and comprehensive dog DNA test available, a DNA ancestry test cannot determine purity. The reason behind this is because purebred status is not itself a scientific designation.
